HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT COURSE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL?

After completion of high school, many students may have a lot of questions and may find themselves in many different directions, but really not sure about how to choose what's best?. As an academic advisor for the past 2 years, I have met with a lot of students and parents and realize that the most common question is how to choose the right course after high school. Here is the best way to find yourself what's right.

For those who are having trouble or confused with what is best for you, here are 4 simple steps to choose what next after the high school

  1. THE FIRST STEP

Let’s know the field of interest but not what your friend told you to do  So find your interest. It can be anything like Hobbies, Skills, or Your best subject. Some wish to take a year off before continuing their higher education. For them, you have options like volunteering on public programs or social services and so on, so try to get your parent's help to find the alternatives. This will help you learn new skills, make connects and can understand the society better

  1. EXPLORE YOUR  INTEREST

Let's try to explore the area that you are interested in. It can be anything like Medicine, Engineering, Language, Teaching, Acting, or whatever. For example- If you are passionate about Flights. Then there are options to become a pilot, engineer or a technician so pick the one that most fascinate you. Aeronautical, Avionics, Powerplant are the Engineering departments. So study carefully on the internet or meet people in the field to know more about it. Some common questions that you can ask are mentioned below

Does this field have a scope in the future?

Efforts that you have to take to complete this course?

Financial support needed to complete the course?

How to choose the best colleges or universities available?

  1. CHOOSING THE RIGHT PLATFORM

Universities and Technical Institutes are the possibilities for the students to make their way for higher education. In university mostly students will go through a syllabus based on learning and written based exams [Bachelor Degrees], while in the Technical Colleges the students will make their studies based on technical skills and hands-on experience [Diplomas]. This decision can be made by the students based on their level of ability

Choosing the right institute or a university on the other hand also plays a vital role in your studies.  You should make a few analysis before making the enrollment as mentioned below

Open days

Attending open days of different universities, this will give you a much better feel about the campus. Also, there are educational fairs for you to attend

Syllabus

Should always go through the syllabus that you want to focus on and compare it with the last years because the syllabus should be upon up to date.

Support

Check out with the students union for the support they can provide and if you are an international student make sure the Embassy is there to support you

Value

Always look for the Credibility and the value of the Degree or the diploma you are going to achieve. For example, you can search for the worlds university ranking in google or meet some former students

      4.  THINGS TO DO IF YOU CHOOSE TO STUDY ABROAD

Always there are preparations you must take while planning to move abroad for your studies. Below mentioned are the few things to do before going abroad

Make sure that you have a valid passport and a students visa for your safe travel

Try to be in touch with the current students and maintain a healthy friendship with them also get some contacts of the embassy in case of an emergency and always be in touch with the educational consultancy who helped to with the university and the visa

PACKING

Always pack for the essentials needed for the country you are visiting, for example like if you are visiting Canada, make sure you are aware of the climatic conditions and pack according to that.

PREPARE YOURSELF MENTALLY

Always saying goodbye is tough, especially if it's for the first time and this is the necessary part of the journey. To make it easy, always think about the experience and the excitement you are about to experience. Even though you can never expect to be fully prepared to travel, i hope this tips will help you
